Smoky Skies & Stinging Wasps
Summer in the Okanagan is halfway over, but your dog probably hasn't noticed. Between smoky skies and yards that have seen months of nonstop play, there's still plenty of summer left to enjoy.
We're excited to share that Poo Worx now offers two new services.
Pet Sitting and Lawn Tick and Flea Treatment. Both are designed to make life a little easier as summer heads into its final stretch.
We've also lowered our one-time clean up pricing!
If your yard could use a fresh start, one-time clean ups are now more affordable too.
Whether you're heading out of town for one of the last summer getaways or just want extra help keeping your yard safe, we've expanded what we offer.
Pet sitting means your dog gets a familiar, trusted face while you're away, no kennel stress, no last-minute scrambling to find someone.
Lawn tick and flea treatment tackles the problem where it starts, in the grass, rather than only after your dog picks something up. This is especially useful in late summer, when ticks and fleas are still active in yards even as the weather starts to cool.
Reply to this email or visit our website if you'd like to learn more about either service.
With smoky days keeping dogs closer to home, yards are seeing more use than usual this month, and that means waste builds up faster too.
Pricing for two dogs is now $120 (down from $135), and three dogs is now $135 (down from $165), making it easier to get things back on track before summer winds down.
Regular scooping keeps things from piling up and helps prevent the odour and bacteria that come with warm weather, so your yard stays a place you actually want to spend time in through the rest of summer.
Most people know to keep their dog inside on smoky days, but the reason matters more than you might think.
Dogs release heat by panting, which means smoky air gets pulled deep into their lungs faster than it would through normal nose breathing. A dog that's been running or playing outside on a hazy day is breathing in far more smoke particles than one who's resting.
A few things to watch for:
Coughing, wheezing, or rapid breathing after time outside
Red or watery eyes
Reduced energy or reluctance to play
Short-nosed breeds (pugs, bulldogs, boxers) are especially sensitive and should have outdoor time cut short even on moderately smoky days
On days with visible haze, shorter bathroom breaks and calm indoor time are more protective than a full walk.
Wasps are most aggressive in late summer, and dogs who like to snap at bugs are more likely to get stung around the face, mouth, or paws.
A sting on the nose or paw usually causes mild swelling that settles on its own, but a sting inside the mouth or throat can cause swelling severe enough to affect breathing. That distinction is why location matters more than most people realize.
If your dog is stung and shows facial swelling, drooling, or difficulty breathing, treat it as urgent and get to a vet right away. For a straightforward paw or body sting, a cold compress and a bit of rest is usually all that's needed.
Thank you for trusting us with your yard this summer. Here's to a smooth end to the season.
